William Balfour pleaded not guilty yesterday (Jan. 20) to charges of first degree murder and home invasion, according to the Chicago Sun-Times.
The charges stem from the murders of singer Jennifer Hudson’s relatives: her brother, Jason Hudson; her mother, Darnell Donerson; and her nephew, seven-year-old Julian King. Balfour is the estranged husband of Jennifer Hudson’s sister Julia.
Donerson and Jason Hudson were found shot to death in Chicago’s South Side Englewood neighborhood. Julian’s body was found in a sport-utility vehicle three days later on the West Side.
Balfour’s defense attorneys claim there is no forensic evidence tying their client to the murders. They requested that Balfour be moved from Joliet state prison to Cook County Jail for easier access to their client.
Balfour is currently being held in custody without bail.
