In this day an age, it’s not uncommon to see Black men purchasing moisturizers, skin creams, shower gels and other personal grooming products.  For years, the spotlight has been on the grooming habits of women however more and more men are beginning to feel comfortable about taking the necessary steps to look and feel their best, which is huge!

The biggest challenge Black men have with wet shaving is getting razor bumps. The problem occurs when hair from a growing beard curls over and grows back into the skin, causing inflammation and, in some cases, keloidal scarring.

The best way to deal with razor bumps and ingrown hairs is to develop a before-and-after shaving system.

That said, the editors from TheUrbanDaily and Gillette are here to share the most effective grooming tips.

1. You need to open the pores on your face and soften your beard.  You can achieve this by taking a shower or using a warm wash cloth over your face for a couple of minutes.

2. Wash your face with an exfoliating scrub or facial cleanser  ; these items are no longer just for women! An exfoliating scrub takes off the dead skin so you can get a closer shave. Some men apply olive oil or jojoba oil on their face to further the moistening process.

3. Apply some shaving cream or gel like Gillette Fusion Proglide Irritation Defense Gel evenly to your face. Be sure not to apply it too thick. Always rub upwards on your face. If you want to get fancy and decide to use a shaving brush, apply the cream or gel in a circular motion. Allow the gel or cream to sit on your face for a couple of minutes to enhance the moistening process.
