If you're just flat talking about putting out consistent hits, then yes. If you're talking about record sales of artists as a whole, then yes. In this day and age, it's all about who can "keep the registers ringin'" (Jay-Z "The Bounce", BluePrint2) I am a Ne-Yo fan and yea, the boy got a magic pen. I have all his stuff...he makes today's classics. But if you're talking about over-all complete vocal ability of all the artists, stage presence, music you can listen to around your mom and kids without cringing at the words or the messages...then no. Problem is, people DON'T like real music and quality is something the labels aren't interested in or can afford to put out. If it doesn't make your head bob, it's not getting released as a single or even made. Hell, Ne-Yo got lucky that there's still people out here that wanna hear music they can relate to.

For Today's age meaning the last 10-15 years and you could even add 20 with LL, yep def jam has some hits....I love hip hop and r&b but you can't even put today's music or rosters in the same breath or class as motown's...please, go look and listen on youtube or any videos you can get your hands on of Michael and the Jackson 5 back then, Marvin, Diana Ross and The Supremes, Lil Steve Wonder, Smokey Robinson, Aretha Franklin, The Commodores, Gladys Knight and the Pips and a whole lot more hits from other artists and group names that might not be instantly recognized but their songs you'd know right away...Even Rick James was on Motown...Motown was a different time, it was when blacks had to fight and prove themselves for equal respect as humans and to express ourselves, and music was one of those outlets that included the 70's coming out of the 60's and civil rights, those 2 decades have some of the best music this world will ever have....no other era will come close to that.

Music is judged by longevity and to be honest most if not 95% f what you hear on the radio now is HAWT GARBAGE! It sells now true but it has no staying power. Understand the music of Motown's day has and had staying power. It is the music that drove a generation and gave hope to the next. The last time that the music industry even got close since then would be in the era of BDP, PE, and such. Only reason why because the same message that conveyed in those songs of long past were still prevalent in those songs. The spirit of those songs of old were still held close to the same meaning in those songs produced then. Now the messages are hollow and vain. Its look at my jewelry, see how many hoes I got, get out my face before I shoot you, and etc. Its garbage. Now if you really want to get back to at least close to Motown status....get REAL artists and turn off the drum machines and voice altering software. I don't care how much you try you can not get Tammi Terrell & Marvin Gaye out of Rihanna & Ne-Yo. You will never get Etta James out of Beyonce. You can not get Teddy Pendergrass out of Chris Brown. You can not get The Temptations out of Day 26.

NONE OF THESE NEW RECORD COMPANIES WILL EVER COMPARE TO MOTOWN. THE GARBAGE MUSIC THEY ARE PUTTING OUT DOES'NT COME CLOSE TO BEING ON THE SAME LEVEL AS THE CLASSIC MOTOWN SOUND. TO EVEN SIT HERE AND COMPARE THE TWO IS AN INSULT TO ALL THE GREAT ARTIST OF MOTOWN. THERE HAS'NT BEEN AN ARTIST OR GROUP IN THE LAST 15 YEARS THAT HAVE EVEN COME CLOSE TO SOME OF THE MOTOWN GREATS. DEF JAM, BAD BOY? PLEASE! YOU MIGHT WANNA PICK UP SOME OF THE CLASSICS SO U CAN SEE WHAT REAL MUSIC IS!
