R&B singer Montell Jordan is in a serious legal dispute with the IRS. The government filed a federal tax lien against Jordan alleging he owes them $617,987.06 in back taxes. The lien stems from Montell Jordan’s failure to file taxes from 1999-2001. However, the former Def Jam artist says he paid the government their money, they just haven’t received it yet.

The “This Is How We Do It” crooner told TMZ that he finished paying off the almost $618k bill years ago when he sold his music catalog. The issue is the money is trapped inside a frozen account overseen by the U.S. Trustee Program. The U.S. Trustee Program is a subsidiary of the Department of Justice that deals with bankruptcy cases.

Jordan filed for bankruptcy back in 2004 and still is battling the government over some of the IRS penalties he’s still on the hook for. Montell Jordan is optimistic the dispute will be done with in a few weeks as he expects the money to be released from the frozen account once the negotiations between him and the IRS are completed.

How man times do we have to tell famous folks to pay their taxes before they listen?
