The Dark Knight Rises. The Amazing Spider-Man. The Avengers. The summer of 2012 promises to be the year of the superhero with three comic book adaptations hitting the theaters, but where are the black superheroes? Aside from Samuel L. Jackon’s Nick Fury  and last year’s X-Men: First Class which featured two black mutants (Zoe Krazitz, Ed Gathegbi), our most recent  superhero movies have been quite vanilla.

Stefan Dezil, a drama major at Carnegie Mellon University, took the initiative and with some funding provided by friends and family, shot a web short based on the Milestone Comics character, Static Shock.  Dezil jokingly explains “I really wanted to see a superhero who looked like me, and since I didn’t have enough time to buff up to do Black Panther, I thought Static was a good choice.”

Dezil’s  web short has gone viral since hitting the web (racking up close to 25,000 views) and fans of “Static Shock” are now campaigning for a movie adaptation.

What say you readers? Were you a fan of the “Static Shock” animated series? Would you want to see “Static Shock” in theaters? Sound off in comments section below.
