Travyon Martin’s mother Sybrina Fulton has released a video message to express the pain of her first Mother’s Day without her son. Trayvon Martin was killed in Florida on February 26, 2012 by a neighborhood watch volunteer named George Zimmerman. After weeks of protest and outcry Zimmerman was finally charged in the death of Trayvon but is currently out on bail.

“I know it will be hard,” says a teary-eyed Fulton. “But my faith, family and friends will pull me through. On Sunday I’m going to say a prayer for other mothers across America who share this unbearable pain. Just like me, 30,000 mothers lost their children to senseless gun violence. Nobody can bring our children back, but it would bring us comfort if we could spare other mothers the pain we feel on Mother’s Day.”
The clip ends with a plea for other states to reconsider the controversial “Stand Your Ground” laws that are being used to justify her son’s death, and those of others around the country. For more information go to www.secondchancecampaign.org.
