So much for resting in peace. The New York Daily News has obtained more than 200 pages of correspondence between the producer and promoter of Michael Jackson’s “This Is It.”
On June 20, 2009, days before Jackson died from a lethal overdose of propofal, director Kenny Ortega sent a panicked email telling promoter Randy Phillips, the head of AEG Live, that Jackson appeared too “weak and fatigued” to rehearse the previous night.
Phillips countered that “It is critical that neither you, me, or anyone around this show become amateur psychiatrists or physicians…You cannot imagine the harm and ramifications of stopping the show now.”
The emails are at the center of several lawsuits taking place between Jackson’s heirs and AEG, and with Jackson’s insurance company Llloyds of Londo.
Jackson’s death was eventually pinned on his physician, Dr. Conrad Murray, who was sentenced to four years in prison for the involuntary manslaughter of Michael Jackson.
