Boston Celtics fans aren’t the only people upset about Ray Allen‘s decision to leave the team and sign with the rival Miami Heat. His former teammate Kevin Garnett(KG), already an, ahem, intense individual on the court, has cut off all communication with the all-time three point scoring leader. “I don’t have Ray’s number anymore,” Garnett said Friday (9/28). “I’m not trying to communicate. I’m just being honest with everybody in here. … It’s just what it is.”

KG lobbied hard to get Allen to re-sign with Boston over the summer and for Ray to not only leave Boston, break up the first modern day version of the Big 3 (the trio formed when KG and Allen signed with Boston in 2007 joining Paul Pierce), then go ahead and take twice as less money than Boston was offering to sign with Miami is apparenly a bitter pill for the Big Ticket to swallow.

Allen was hobbled with an ankle injury last season which ultimately led to his loss of the starting guard job to the younger Avery Bradley. Allen was reportedly miffed over his name being dangled in trade rumors, reportedly having issues with point guard Rajon Rondo, and not regaining his starting spot when he was completely healthy at the end of the season.

If starting was the issue for Allen, Dwyane Wade hasn’t played point guard since Gary Payton joined the team for their championship run in 2006 moving him to the shooting guard, why sign with Miami where he will most likely come off the pine? I’m with KG on this one. Allen, ever the classy individual, had no hard feelings towards Garnett: “We’re friends regardless of what happens. He’s got to do what he’s got to do up in Boston.”

Incidentally the NBA season begins October 30th. Guess what two teams play each other in Miami. Think KG will greet Allen at center court? We may see another Michael Jordan comeback first.
