New York Yankees fans rejoice. Your “Sandman” will return to settle unfinished business in 2013. The all-time leader in saves Mariano Rivera, who turns 43 at the end of this month, will return to the mound next season. It was thought that 2012 would be the fireballer’s swan song in the major leagues, but a torn ACL, gained while going through his daily ritual of shagging fly balls before a game in Kansas City, ended his season before it really began last May. Rivera did not want him writhing in pain on the warning track to be the lasting image of his legendary Hall-of-Fame career. I’m sure striking out the final batter in the clinching game of the 2013 World Series would top his list.

Mo (as he is affectionately known) is still one of the top closers in baseball even at his advanced age, and while the Yankees did not significantly drop off in the bullpen in that area thanks to Rafael Soriano, no one in the Yankees clubhouse is trying to convince Rivera to retire.

So does the return of Rivera put the Yankees back in the World Series next year? Sound off in the comments.
