Kenan Thompson is about to have another go at having his own show. The Hollywood Reporter has confirmed that Thompson’s show, to be executive produced by SNL’s Lorne Michaels, is in development at NBC.

They also report:

Kenan Thompson, who has been with the sketch comedy series since 2003, is attached to write, star in and executive produce an untitled comedy, which has received a script commitment from the network.

The single-camera comedy would star Thompson as Kenan Monroe, a guy who gives up his New York life and moves to his in-laws’ house in the suburbs, where he must contend with three generations of problems.

Michaels will executive produce through his Broadway Video banner and Universal Television, marking the second project he has set up this development season.

Meanwhile, Kenan’s old partner, Kel Mitchell, tells TMZ that these days Kenan keeps as much distance from him as possible.

The site quotes the actor:

Kel tells TMZ, “The truth is Kenan does not want to be seen with me in any form of media, or even have my name mentioned around him.”

Kel says he nearly reunited with Kenan for an interview with a popular magazine but Kenan pulled out at the last minute … and he thinks it’s because Kenan’s still trying to separate himself from his old co-star.

But Kel’s not bitter, explaining, “I have not been upset about this. I respect his choice of wanting to make a name for himself solo.”

“There is no bad blood on my side, I’m not declining a reunion, I know the fans love the show and would love to see some type of appearance with us … I just don’t see that ever happening because of how he really feels.”
