Fantasia has confirmed that she will re-enroll in high school to finally earn her diploma, which has been a goal of the singer’s since she dropped out of ninth grade about a decade ago.

I’ve been talking about it for so long,” Fantasia, 24, told E! Online Friday. “I have a lot of young people who look up to me, like my 15-year-old brother and 7-year-old daughter. It’s something that I really need to do and that I want to do.”

The “American Idol” winner says she is back on solid ground after dealing with the possibility of one of her homes being foreclosed and put up for auction. Fantasia announced last month that an agreement had been reached so she could keep the home.

I had to sit back for awhile and had to get some things settled,” she said. “I had been with a lot of people not doing what they said they were going to do. I didn’t have time to sit back and cry. I didn’t have time to go to a mental health counselor. I had to keep my s**t on straight—excuse my language!—and handle my business, because it’s not just about me. It’s about me and my whole family.”

As previously reported, AOL Black Voices columnist Jawn Murray reported that Fantasia will join the Washington D.C. cast of “The Color Purple” when it begins its run this summer. While the singer has yet to confirm those plans, she is currently shopping a reality show from producers World of Wonder that will follow her day-to-day life.
