Prior to  the release of their latest studio album, Left Back, Phonte and Big Pooh of Little Brother announced that they were breaking up as group.

Understandably, there was a lot of public outcry from fans who’d enjoyed their albums The Listening, The Minstrel Show, Get Back and mixtapes like The Chitlin Circuit. But one voice in particular was loud in their protest of the break-up, the one belonging to ?uestlove of The Roots.

Back in 2003 Cool ?uest was one of the first co-signers of the Little Brother movement so when his site Okayplayer.com conducted a very thorough oral history of Little Brother( “Look Back”), he went on record with his thoughts against the break-up.

In this first part of The Urban Daily’s interview with Phonte he explains why they didn’t heed ?uest’s advice to “never break-up” and answers whether they’ll be back together by 2014.
