Last night Smirnoff’s Master of the Mix DJ competition premiered on Centric. When it was first announced that established and accomplished DJs like Rich Medina, Vikter Duplaix and Jazzy Joyce would be competing with turntable legends like DJ Scratch and Revolution on a reality TV show some people scratched their heads. There were further question marks as to how a relative neophyte like Just Blaze, the show’s host, could critique people who he grew up listening to.
Well, at a special screening of the show in NYC all of the involved parties answered those pressing questions and shed light on the need for DJs to be represented on a national platform.
“I asked my nephew what a DJ was and he said it was a guy who gets all of his friends to rap on his album. It’s funny but it’s scary…” –DJ Scratch

The Legendary Grandmaster Flash was also in attendance and he shared an amazing jewel with the audience: how exactly he developed the technique for cutting and mixing records that DJs across the world use today.
