Jill Scott recently filmed a music video for her new single, “Shame,” at the Cecil B Moore Recreational Center in northern Philadelphia.  Scott visited the center frequently as a youth and recently donated money to prevent it from being shut down.

“I really wanted to go back to my original state. I love hip-hop, and I was born to it,” Scott told CNN. “I needed to come back to it, it’s been awhile, and I’m in a new environment.”

Through her own Blues Babe Foundation, Scott was able to save the center which was going to be shut down due to lack of funding. The foundation replaced the roof, gym floor and basketball court.

“When I found out it was closing, it just hurt my feelings because kids like me needed a place to go,” she said. “We just started to really take care of this facility because we don’t want it to shut down… Every community needs a rec center. I put a lot of my love and my heart here.”

Jill Scott’s new album, The Light Of The Sun, is due out later this year.
