CNN is hoping to lure black and Latino viewers to the network and boost ratings in their lagging 7PM time slot.  They are reportedly considering bringing in comedians Chris Rock or Aisha Tyler to host a show in the time slot currently occupied by John King USA

The network has already shot a pilot for the 7PM slot hosted by Soledad O’Brien, who has been producing diversity themed programming for CNN, notably their Black In America series.  However, the pilot was deemed “unwatchable” by CNN president Jim Walton.  O’Brien is said to be shooting a second pilot.

A CNN representative tells the New York Post, “We shoot pilots regularly and beyond that we don’t comment on speculation.” An insider at the network said, “It has been clearly articulated that they need to consider a host with an ethnic background for a prime-time slot.

In 2008, CNN aired D.L. Hughley Breaks The News, hosted by the famous comedian, but the show was canceled after less than a year.
