Bernard Hopkins, a Philadelphia-based fighter, assailed Donovan McNabb and questioned his character in a racially-charged tirade.

He told reporters on Tuesday in the run-up to his fight that McNabb — whom Hopkins knows from his days with the Philadelphia Eagles — is neither black enough or tough enough.

“Forget this,” said Hopkins, who is black, while pointing to his skin. “He’s got a suntan. That’s all.”

Hopkins denounced McNabb as lacking the toughness of other NFL players and said he benefited from a privileged childhood. He said McNabb assimilated too easily with team executives around the Eagles.

He said McNabb lacked a toughness that current Eagles QB Michael Vick and former Eagles WR Terrell Owens have.

“McNabb? Great. Skills? Throw the ball? Great. But there was something missing,” Hopkins said. “Vick? He understands. And T.O. – same cloth.”
