missy elliotMissy “Misdemeanor” Elliot changed the rap game when she debuted on the scene with Timberland. Since then she is still the only female rapper to have had six platinum albums. Missy Elliot has been off the radar though, the last bit of music we heard from the respected superstar was a feature with Keyshia Cole and Lil’ Kim. This may be due to the fact that Missy has been suffering with Graves disease since 2008. Graves Disease is an autoimmune disorder that leads to over activity of the thyroid gland (hyperthyroidism). Missy admits to People.com “I was (driving and) trying to put my foot on the brake, but my leg was jumping. I couldn’t keep the brake down and almost crashed. … I couldn’t write because my nervous system was so bad — I couldn’t even use a pen.” She adds “I’m 30 pounds lighter because I’ve been exercising. My thyroid is functioning, so I haven’t had to take medication in about nine months. (But) you live with it for the rest of your life.”
