When: February 2, 1998

What: DJ Screw’s technique of slowing down the pitch of songs—hence dubbed “Chopped & Screwed”—made him a Houston hip-hop legend. The record store he founded, Screwed Up Records & Tapes, was opened just a couple of years before his untimely death.
