On his latest album W.A.R. Queens MC Pharoahe Monch recorded a stirring semi-autobiographical song called “Still Standing.” One of the details he shared on the track was a life long battle with asthma. In a strange twist of fate, while in Philadelphia recording the song with Jill Scott, Monch experienced an attack and had to be rushed to the hospital after the song was done. But he didn’t tell Scott what was happening.

“I didn’t want to let her know because I was ‘let’s get the vocals’,” Monch says of his silence during the session. “I didn’t want her to feel weird.”
