Coming off her Oscar nominated role in The Help, Viola Davis is making moves to produce and star in the biopic of Congresswoman Barbara Jordan.

The forthcoming film is one of the projects Davis and her husband, Julian Tennon, are developing through their own multi-ethnic production company, JuVee Productions. The upcoming film will be directed by Emmy Award winning director Paris Barclay and will be based on the book, Barbara Jordan: An American Hero. The movie, as well as the book, will document Jordan’s humble beginnings in Houston, Texas to becoming an integral part of the civil rights movement.

It’s been said to have been in talks for years, but never came to fruition. With Viola Davis attached to the project, a Barbara Jordan biopic finally has the noteriety it needs to be made. People involved with the project hoipe this will be another noteworthy performance in Viola Davis’ career which might nab her the Oscar she deserves.
