Mary J. Blige is speaking out about the Burger King ad for a new fried chicken wrap that seems to have vexed a number of the Queen of Hip Hop Soul’s longtime fans. Speaking to TMZ, Mary says she never signed off on the controversial ad — well not the version that quickly became a viral sensation. She told the site, “I agreed to be a part of a fun and creative campaign that was supposed to feature a dream sequence. Unfortunately, that’s not what was happening in that clip.” Mary added, “I understand my fans being upset by what they saw. But, if you’re a Mary fan, you have to know I would never allow an unfinished spot like the one you saw go out.”

An apologetic Burger King released this statement saying the ad was pulled over licensing fees and being released prematurely. “We would like to apologize to Mary J. and all of her fans for airing an ad that was not final,” the company said.

Are y’all chicken critics happy now?
