It’s a wrap. The 2012 Billboard Music Awards are in the books and surprise, surprise, the big winner of the night was…the same big winner from ever award show in the past twelve months–Adele who walked away with 12 Billboard Awards.

The show kicked off with an interesting performance by LMFAO – all of whom stripped down to their underwear as they performed their hit “Party Roc”. Not sure how it was received on screen at home, but the crowd reaction here in Vegas was mixed…actually, mostly awkwardly terrified. But the random Zebra on stage was cool.

Justin Bieber is growing up, right in front of our eyes…and sort of turning into Justin Timberlake. The 17 year-old snagged The Social Artist Award for his online presence. The Biebs was sincere in his acceptance speech, reminding everyone that the Youtube alum started his career on the internet. What an interesting full circle moment.

Speaking of full circle, we caught a nice moment between The Biebs, his musical godfather Usher and bad boy cousin Chris Brown. Watching the three of them chat it up was interesting. What would that collab sound like?

Both Brown and Usher took the stage, performing “Turn Up The Music” and “Scream” respectively. Whatever Usher is doing to get his performance back on track, we recommend he keep it up. His goth performance was one of our favorites for the night. Although many in the audience were a little bummed he didn’t do his new hit “Climax”.

Katy Perry has tied Michael Jackson with five hits off one album, earning the recent divorcee the Spotlight Award for “Teenage Dream.” In an eery choice, the award was given to her by MJ’s ex-wife, Lisa Marie Presley.

Hip Hop was represented with Lil Wayne taking Male Artist of the Year and Wiz Khalifah taking New Artist of the Year. Of course he thanked his fiancé Amber Rose, who beamed from the audience, “She’s my world and she puts up with my crazy butt, too.”

Tributes were paid to recently departed disco queen Donna Summer and Bee Gees front man Robin Gibb who passed away on Sunday after a long battle with cancer.

After the emotional posthumous tributes, it was nice to see Alicia Keys take the stage to honor Stevie Wonder as they performed his classic “Overjoyed” together.

But perhaps the most emotional part of the night was the tribute to Whitney Houston, who passed away suddenly during Grammy weekend last February.

John Legend put his soulful spin on ‘Greatest Love of All’. But it was Jordin Sparks – who could NOT look more gorgeous – who tore it down with her rendition of Whitney’s rendition of Dolly Parton’s “I Will Always Love You”.

Following the music, Bobbi Kristina took the stage to accept the Millennium Award on behalf of her mother. “I just really want to say thank you to everyone who supported us through it all. Not just when it was good, but when it was bad too … thank you so much for showing that much love, because she deserved it.” Truly an emotional moment.
