With “reality” TV becoming more of a loosely directed spectacle, genuine moments of drama come few and far between. However, on last night’s episode of HBO’s “Hard Knocks” the network aired the very moment that Chad “Ochocinco” Johnson was fired by the Miami Dolphins coach, Joe Philbin.

Johnson was recently arrested on a domestic  violence charge for allegedly headbutting his wife Evelyn Lozada and had been struggling in training camp, so the coach decided to part ways with the embattled wide receiver.

As Johnson sat in the office of the coach dressed in sweat pants and t-shirt, he appeared contrite and pensive.

“I let you down a little bit…a lot,” Johnson said. “I understand what you’re doing. You got the message across clear the first day we met. Not just individually but as a team. I apologize for embarrassing you, this organization and my teammates.”

Coach Philbin, who had berated Johnson’s performance in practice, was polite but unflinching in his resolve to let Johnson go.

“I appreciate that, I respect that,” Philbin responded. ” I hope you know that everything that I do, I put some thought behind what I do…I do my best not to fly off the handle or act irrational but I don’t know if this is working of the benefit of you, me, The Miami Dolphins or anybody else.”

Johnson attempted to plead his case by stating that he’d never been in trouble before( despite a domestic battery charge in 2000) and that he bought into his program.  But Philbin wasn’t hearing it.

“It’s not just last night, ” the Coach rebutted. “Where we are as a program and where we’re headed I just don’t see the mesh right now. I wish it was different. I wish I could tell you something more encouraging. But I think it’s best for both of us if we part ways. ”

Johnson may appeal the decision. (CLICK HERE for his legal grounds.)

What do you think? Should they have filmed Chad Johnson being fired?
