DJ Forge, 2010 and 2011 Red Bull Thre3style NC Champion and member of the Jukebox Heroes DJ Crew, gives his top 5 parties to hit if you are ever looking for a good time in Raleigh, N.C.

“Penthouse Wednesdays” at Solas [Glenwood Avenue] — Occurs every Wednesday night. It started with just the rooftop but now includes the second floor. This one is noteworthy because it’s the only weekly event in the Glenwood South area that caters to a full-on hip-hop party (most venues in the area are top 40 and house). Typically DJ’d by myself and/or DJ Paradime.

“Project Mayhem” at Still Life [401 W. North st, Raleigh] — Occurs every Friday night and is the only Friday night weekly in the Glenwood area that focuses on a true open format party. DJs get the freedom to spin whatever genres they think will move the crowd, and also focus heavily on throwbacks from the ’80s and ’90s.  Noteworthy because, again, it differs from the standard Glenwood South formula of current top 40/house.

“95 Live” at Five Star [511 w. Hargett Street] — Occurs once or twice a month on Fridays at Five Star. Headed by 9th wonder and the True School corporation, this event focuses on quality music from the ’90s and early ’00s. They get some big name guest DJs from time to time (ie Pete Rock and DJ Premier recently). It typically attracts those who are into quality/classic hip-hop.

Dirty Mega at Five Star — Monthly event that occurs every first Friday (but also occurs elsewhere in the state). Created by and DJed by Permanent Vacation DJs Lord Walrus and Thien. There’s always a lot going on downtown on the first Friday of the month and this is usually the best party to end up at.  The music is focused heavily on various electronic genres and what’s going to be cool before it’s cool.

DSCVRY  at King’s Barcade — Monthly event occurring on the third Friday of each month. It focuses on newly established and upcoming genres, and typically involves an established guest DJ that you usually won’t hear anywhere else in the state.  This is currently the party of the month for the younger party crowd.
