The Jeffersons star Sherman Hemsley died July 24th after a bout with lung cancer. He has yet to reach his final resting place because Hemsley’s long lost brother and manager are fighting over the deceased actor’s fifty thousand dollar will.

According to reports, Hemsley signed a will a month and a half before he died which handed over his fifty thousand dollars over to his manager Flora Echinton. Hemsley’s brother Robert Thorton accuses Echinton of trying to cash in on a bogus will. Flora Echinton is making accusations of her own. She told the Associated Press that she had been Sherman Hemsley’s manager for twenty years and has never heard of a Robert Thorton.

Echinton stated, “Some people come out of the woodwork — they think Sherman, they think money. But the fact it that I did not know Sherman when he was in the limelight. I met him when he came running from Los Angeles with not one penny, when there was nothing but struggle.”

It’s tough to tell which side is right or wrong in this case, but these two need to work it out. Sherman Hemsley deserves to have a proper burial despite desperate grabs at his money. Let’s not have another James Brown situation where the deceased party isn’t properly buried for almost a year because the family is fighting over money.
