The ’90s and early aughts were a bad time for NBA athlete style. After player’s fashion sense peaked with the impeccable style of ballers like Clyde Frazier and Magic Johnson in the ’70s and ’80s it dipped in to a deep, dark valley of over-sized big and tall zoot suits that made guys look more stereotypical pimp than player. To this day even the great Michael Jordan continues to embarrass with his Hitler mustaches and signature “dad” jeans.

Thank God for the stylish NBA players of the 21st-Century like Amare Stoudamire, Russell Westbrook and our pick for the Shine Awards Style Rule Breaker, the Miami Heat’s Dwyane Wade.

With an aesthetic that’s as unique as the spelling of his first name and a fashion sense that’s head and shoulders above other celebs in any field Wade has become the NBA’s poster boy for high fashion. He’s not covered in silly or obnoxious tats, his clothes actually fit him well and he combines classic looks with a dash of trendy flair. For Wade, his style comes as as naturally as his game and people have noticed. He’s graced the covers of both GQ and Esquire, and there’s no doubt that actress and girlfriend Gabrielle Union doesn’t mind having a man who’s a clotheshorse as the have partnered to produced event like his “A Night on the RunWade” event to benefit his Wade’s World charity.
