Looking at where Jay-Z and DMX are in their respective careers, it’s hard to imagine that once upon a time they were once peers both trying to make a name in the music industry.

During an interview with VLADTV Swizz Beatz, who was produced hits for both of the aforementioned artists, remembered  a legendary battle between the titans in a pool hall back in the ’90s.

“My uncle made everybody turn their cameras off,” he says of his uncle Joaquin “Waah” Dean regulating the scene. “You could have made a movie around that moment. To see DMX and Hov like Meek and Cassidy at that time…I’m just happy I could witness these moments.”

Swizz went on to recall how he met Jay-Z for the first time and Hov buying a cassette tape with 40 beats on it on the spot.

“Jay was sitting there in a black turtleneck on withe Jesus Piece on and Cartier frames and I said I needed that sh*t,” he said. Watch the full clip below.
