It looks like Drake isn’t the only YMCMB member getting hit with a copyright infringement lawsuit. Young Money’s queen Nicki Minaj is being sued by an underground Chicago artist named Clive Tanaka.

According to a new lawsuit filed in a United States District court in Chicago, Tanaka claims Minaj and a few other writers and producers stole components from his song “Neu Chicago” for her summer smash “Starships.” Tanaka also named producer/songwriter Nadir “RedOne” Khayat, Rami Yacoub, Carl Falk, and Wayne Hector in the lawsuit.

Many will argue that the two songs sound vaguely similar but not enough for a lawsuit, but Clive Tanaka has a theory as to how they would’ve had the opportunity to jack elements from the song. Tanaka theorizes RedOne and his collaborators may have been living in Sweden when his song “Neu Chicago” was featured in quite a few advertising campaigns. The “Neu Chicago” singer told the Chicago Tribune, “They had a very good opportunity to hear it…We believe they are similar to the point that it is nearly impossible for it to be a coincidence.”

Neither Nicki nor anyone named in the lawsuit have commented on the matter.
