The first episode of “SNL” for 2014 was one for the books. With the recent hiring of cast member Sasheer Zamata and writers LaKendra Tookes and Leslie Jones, the pressure was on to see if the newest additions would bring the funny. Add to the increased presence of African-American talent an appearance by rapper/singer/actor Aubrey “Drake” Graham and you knew that the whole world would be watching.
Drake put in serious work, appearing in at least nine sketches and performing twice. He played everything from Alex Rodriguez and Katt Williams to a horny high school kid in detention for having sex with a librarian. Here are all the clips of the sketches Drake appeared in from last night’s “SNL” along with his two musical performances. Watch the full episode on NBC.com.
1. Piers Morgan Cold Open
Piers Morgan examines a series of recent scandals including Bridgegate, Alex Rodriguez’s lawsuits and the Justin Bieber egging incident. Drake plays the suspended Yankee All-Star who blames his text scandal on auto-correct.
2. Drake Bar Mitzvah Monologue
Drake talks about growing up with a Jewish mother and Black father. It’s the Cliff Notes to his “HYFR” video and he apologizes for creating “YOLO.”
3.Before They Were Stars
“Hip Hop Classics: Before They Were Stars” reveals the television roles today’s hottest hip hop artists had before they were famous. Drake plays his boss Lil Wayne as Steve Urkel from “Family Matters.”
Nancy Grace welcomes a bakery owner and comedian Katt Williams to her show to discuss marijuana legalization in Colorado. Drake’s Katt Williams impersonation is spot on.
5. Resolution Revolution (Music Video)
Sticking with a New Year’s Resolution is never easy and Drake cribs some old lyrics from Common to show how hard it is to stop drinking for this PSA. Not really, but it seemed like it.
