Where is Lupe Fiasco from? Lupe Fiasco is from Chicago, Illinois, where he was born Wasalu Muhammad Jaco on February 16, 1982. The rapper, producer, songwriter, and entrepreneur emerged from the Windy City in 2006, when he dropped his debut album, “Lupe Fiasco’s Food & Liquor,” which earned critical raves and placed him on the forefront of the “socially conscious” hip-hop movement. Lupe has gone on to make Chi-Town proud with three subsequent LPs — “Lupe Fiasco’s The Cool” (2007), “Lasers” (2011), and “Food & Liquor II: The Great American Rap Album Pt. 1” (2012) — and he’s prepping his fourth full-length, “Tetsuo & Youth,” for early 2014.

Most fans began asking, “Where is Lupe Fiasco from?” back in 2006, when he not only released “Food & Liquor,” but he also guested on Kanye West’s “Touch the Sky.” Lupe’s association with his fellow Chicago MC — then a rising star — gave his career a boost, and even though he’d been making records since the early ’00s, he was finally on his way. His third album, “Lasers,” debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200, and “Food & Liquor II” topped the R&B and Rap charts. After Yeezy, he’s up there with Common in terms of well known Chi-Town rappers, and “Tetsuo & Youth” will likely make him even more of a household name.

Where is Lupe Fiasco from? The Muslim MC is from a place where artists don’t get stuck doing the same thing album after album. As he told Rolling Stone in the lead-up to “Tetsuo,” he’s done with the “socially conscious” rhyming he’s become associated with. “For some people it’s gonna be a shock, because there are no politics on the record,” Lupe said. “Consciously, there are no politics on the record,” he tells Rolling Stone, adding “If you want to hear my political spiel or some psuedo-intellectual Lupe, go listen to [2012’s] Food & Liquor II. From here on out, I’m just making music.”
