Where is Keyshia Cole from? Keyshia Cole is from Oakland, California, where she was born on October 15, 1981. Cole was adopted at the age of two by family friends Leon and Yvonne Cole, and that prompted the future R&B star and reality TV personality to change her name. Keyshia Cole’s first introduction to the music business came when she was 12 years old and recorded with hometown hero MC Hammer. Later on, she moved to Los Angeles and signed with A&M Records, which released her debut album, “The Way It Is,” in 2005. The LP proved a hit, reaching No. 6 on the Billboard 200 and spawning three hit singles, including “Love” and I Should Have Cheated.” She’s since released four studio albums, and her sixth, “Point of No Return,” is due in 2014.

Keyshia Cole is from Oakland, a city known for producing many musical stars, including MC Hammer and Tupac Shakur, who lived there for a time in the late ’80s and early ’90s. Like ‘Pac, who she befriended, Cole has come a long way from her Oakland roots, and she’s sold millions of records around the world. Her second and third LPs, “Just Like You” and “A Different Me,” topped the Billboard R&B charts, and in 2007, she scored a top 10 pop hit with “Let It Go,” featuring Lil’ Kim and Missy Elliott. The single success coincided with her first reality show, “Keyshia Cole: The Way It Is,” which premiered on BET in 2006 and ran for two years.

The question going into “Point of No Return” is not so much where Keyshia Cole is from but where she’s going. In 2014, she confirmed that her husband, NBA baller Daniel Gibson, were having marital troubles, and while she’s yet to give details, it seems they could be heading for divorce. As fans well know, Gibson appeared alongside Cole on “Keyshia and Daniel: Family First,” and the couple have one child, Daniel Hiram Gibson, Jr., born in March 2010.
