Lyrical masterminds Pharoahe Monch and Black Thought of The Roots tag team a truculent Marco Polo instrumental for the new track, “Rapid Eye Movement,” the latest cut from Monch’s fourth solo album, “P.T.S.D. (Post Traumatic Stress Disorder) dropping on April 15th.

“I got the beat, recorded my first verse and immediately was like ‘I gotta have Thought do this,” Monch told TheUrbanDaily.com. He was #1 on my wish list. I did the joint with Prince Po for Marco  Polo’s album (‘3’0clock’) and we bartered music. ‘REM’ is like again in my mind I’m dreaming and I’m talking a bunch of rapid eye movement shit. This is the reality and the dream world and trying to make it to the real world.”

Hip-Hop fans first heard the two spit together (along with Common and Absolute) on the now classic, “Live From the Stretch And Bobbito Show” from “Lyricist Lounge Vol. 1.” This new collab is the first time the two MCs have been on the same track since “Guerilla Monsoon Rap” from Talib Kweli’s 2002 album, “Quality” and the two spit flames as if they still have something to prove a decade later.

The verses are rife with rewind-worthy couplets like, “Vocally twice as magnifying as ever hearing Chewbacca scream through a megaphone with the significance of Dr. King/philanthropic/ Because I’m trying to see Man United without referencing UK soccer teams….”

“The rhymes are born within the mind of a crazy person who is a movie buff and a sponge for great conversation but also laughter,” Monch explains. “Chewbacca’s scream is so well known, but it also makes me laugh. While I’m writing that slick ass line…it’s just visual.”

Keep checking back to TheUrbanDaily.com for Pharoahe’s “Rhyme and Reason” where he breaks down the track “TimeSquared” from “P.T.S.D.”
