Has Nas ever been arrested? Yes, Nas has been arrested at least twice, the most recent time being September 10, 2009, when he was picked up for DUI in Atlanta. According the Atlanta-Journal Constitution, Nas was stopped as part of a license and safety check, and when he rolled down the windows of his black Escalade, officers smelled marijuana. In questioning, the NYC rapper allegedly admitted that he’d smoked up at a friend’s house, and given that he showed signs of being high, he was arrested.

“He had a green tongue with raised taste buds and his pulse was raised to 116 beats per minute,” states the report. He also had “eyelid tremors in both eyes and body tremors.”

After Nas was arrested for DUI, he was taken to Henry County Jail for blood tests, but according to his lawyer, the police found nothing. Attorney John C. Mayoue insisted in December 2009 that all charges had been dropped, and TMZ confirmed that account.

“Nas has not been charged with any offense whatsoever, including DUI,” said Mayoue. “The state’s own lab results were negative for any drugs, including marijuana.”

Prior to that, Nas was arrested for assault in December 2003, Rolling Stone reports. The Queensbridge MC turned himself in following a December 10 incident at the West Village club Cielo. Nas, who was 30 at the time, reportedly got into an altercation with a man who approached him in the VIP section, and he’s said to have thrown a bottle after a bouncer broke up the melee.

Nas’ 2003 assault arrest did little to derail his career — which had already seen its share of controversy — and a decade later, he remains one of the biggest names in hip-hop. He’s released 10 studio albums, and in 2014, he plans to release no. 11. What’s more, he’s enjoying renewed critical interest thanks to the 20th anniversary of “Illmatic,” the album that put him on the map.
