After dropping seven successful albums for the label, pop superstar Rihanna has decided to part ways with Def Jam Records. The island bombshell is leaving her label home to sign with Jay Z‘s Roc Nation.

While many might note the close relationship as the reason Rihanna signed to Jay Z’s Roc Nation imprint, but it was that and a matter of convenience. Rih Rih is already being repped by Roc Nation on the managerial side. Now, she is signed to the record label as well.

Roc Nation says, “Founded in 2008, Roc Nation is a full-service entertainment company, inclusive of artist, songwriter, producer and engineer management; music publishing; touring & merchandising; film & television; new business ventures; and a music label. It is home to a diverse roster comprised of critically acclaimed recording artists, writers and producers including Rihanna, Shakira, J. Cole, Rita Ora, Calvin Harris, NO ID, Timbaland, Santigold, DJ Mustard and more.”

Rihanna and Jay Z are familiar with each other’s work style. Jay Z signed her to Def Jam in 2005 when he was president. The pair have also collaborated on a number of Grammy Award wining songs. As a team, Jay Z and Rihanna have won three Grammys. Two for Best Rap Sung Collaboration for “Umbrella” and “Run This Town.” The latter was also awarded for Rap Song.

She’s already a dominant force in music. Let’s see how Jay Z and Roc Nation elevate her star.
