This is a sad day…because according to USA Today, Johnson Publishing announced that Jet Magazine, which was founded in 1951, will no longer be printed after June of this year.

Johnson Publishing announced that they will now begin a transition to a digital magazine app at the end of June.

Jet has the third-largest circulation in the African-American magazine market with 700,000, behind Ebony and Essence.

Said Linda Johnson Rice chairman of JPC, in a press release,

“Almost 63 years ago, my father, John Johnson, named the publication Jet because, as he said in the first issue, ‘In the world today, everything is moving faster. There is more news and far less time to read it. He could not have spoken more relevant words today. We are not saying goodbye to Jet, we are embracing the future as my father did in 1951 and taking it to the next level.”

Jet‘s online content will feature entertainment news along with politics, pop culture and social issues that affect African Americans.

So those of us who grew up thumbing through the pages of Jet to see what was hot on the urban charts, what was going on in African American society ie weddings or anniversary announcements and who the current Beauty Of The Week was, can now kiss those days goodbye.

We’re feeling very nostalgic over here as a result of this news….and we’re willing to bet we’re not alone.

Goodbye paper version of Jet…it’s been real.
