Where is Chief Keef from? Chief Keef is from Chicago, Illinois, where he was born Keith Cozart on August 15, 1995. The popular and controversial rapper grew up in the Englewood neighborhood, located on the city’s South Side, and he started rhyming at an early age. The 18-year-old “Love Sosa” MC is also an old pro when it comes to getting into trouble, and he dropped out of school at 15. His rise to fame came when he began posting YouTube videos while under house arrest, and after a major bidding war, he signed with Interscope. The label let him run his own imprint, and in December 2013, following a string of mixtapes, he dropped his debut album, “Finally Rich.” The record peaked at No. 29 on the Billboard 200, and the impressive sales were likely due in part to his notoriety from various run-ins with the law.

Rap fans wondering where Chief Keef is from must not be super well acquainted with his music, as Cozart is closely linked with Chi-Town, and the city looms large in his growing legend. While Chief Keef has emerged as one of the biggest rap stars of the ’10s — he was featured in XXL Magazine’s 2013 “freshman class” issue — he’s had beef with other Chi-Town rhymers, among them Rhymefest and Lupe Fiasco, who have questioned his music and image. Keef’s music centers on inner-city life in his hometown of Chicago, and his lyrics have been described as nihilistic — even irresponsible. Even so, his album “Finally Rich” hit No. 2 on the Rap chart, and he remains a talked-about figure, both for his music and for his many brushes with the law.

The question of where Chief Keef is from is nowhere near as interesting as the question of where he’s going, as many fans worry that his legal issues may derail his career. In March 2014, following a stint in rehab, he was arrested in Illinois for DUI and driving on a suspended license. It was just the latest legal entanglement in a series of infractions stretching back to 2011, the year he released his debut mixtape.
