Being the cynical writer I am, when Nas spit, “Cuz rappers are being deprived of executive hie to fives.” on Kanye West‘s 2005 song “We Major,” my first reaction was, “Well, when is Nas going to start a label then?” The answer to that nearly ten-year-old question is now. Nas recently inked a deal to start Mass Appeal Records and he already has some great music on its way.

Mass Appeal Records is a joint venture with businessman Peter Bittenbender and is meant to hep give a platform to new acts. The record label will also serve as the place to release future Nas material such as his “Lost Tapes 2” which he plans on dropping some time within the next year.

Besides releasing his own material, Nas is working on a compilation project that will boast appearances by A$Ap Mob, Mac Miller, Pusha T, and Future. Look for that project to hit stores later this summer. In what seems to be the biggest news about Nas’ new record label is the release of a posthumous Pimp C album. The album will feature new production from popular beatmakers Mike Will Made It and DJ Mustard.

Congratulations to Nas. We can’t wait to see what he does as an executive!
