Somewhere..somehow…some way… a story was thought up to explain the reason that Mos Def aka Yasiin Bey was cancelling some US tour dates. Those responsible apparently never bothered to research whether or not their story was even plausible. But they really should have…cause it ain’t!

It is being reported far and wide that Yasiin Bey has been banned by the United States Government from reentering the United States Of America because of a protest piece that he did regarding the force feeding of inmates at Guantanamo Bay. Social media went crazy over the report and conspiracy theories have been developing by the moment.

The problem with all of this is…it simply isn’t true! According to The Guardian, the rapper  has cancelled an upcoming tour of the United States, with promoters citing “legal” issues.

However, The Together Music Festival in Boston wrote on its website:

“We regret to inform you that due to immigration/legal issues Yasiin Bey is unable to enter back into the United States and his upcoming US tour has been canceled.”

Mos Def moved from the US a few years ago. He currently resides in South Africa. In an interview Mos told Rolling Stone,

“I lived in Brooklyn 33 years of my life. I thought I’d be buried in that place. And around seven years ago, I was like, you know, ‘I gotta go, I gotta leave.’ It’s very hard to leave. And I lived in a lot of places: Central America, North America, Europe for a while. And I came to Cape Town in 2009 and it just hit me. I was like, ‘Yeah.’ I know when a good vibe gets to you. And, you know, I thought about this place every day from when I left.

I’m not here just for like middle-class comfort, you know. Sure, it’s a beautiful place, you got the ocean, the mountain, the botanical garden, the beautiful people, the history, the culture, the struggle and everything — maaan, let me tell you something, for a guy like me, who had five or six generations not just in America but in one town in America, to leave America, things gotta be not so good with America.”

It sounds more like Mos has something else going on regarding the decision not to return to the US. Think about it people…if speaking against the US Government was enough to get and or keep you thrown out of the country then we wouldn’t see Bill Maher, Michael Moore, Dick Gregory, Harry Belafonte, Danny Glover, Sean Hannity, Rush Limbaugh, Sarah Palin or Jane Fonda here anymore would we?

We don’t know where the story originated but we sure wish people would stop telling it because it makes us all look uninformed and  crazy…seriously.
