The internet may have thrown a hissy fit when it was announced that 17-year-old Disney star Zendaya Coleman would star as Aaliyah in the R&B princess’ biopic being made by Lifetime. However, her family is fighting mad. The family of the late singer/actress says they are going to stop production on the Lifetime movie at all costs.

Barry Hankerson, Aaliyah’s uncle and former manager, says the Haughton family is highly upset nobody from Lifetime contacted them for their blessing or input about the proposed television movie. They also have made plans to block any and all attempts Lifetime makes to secure use of Aaliyah’s music. The Haughtons have hired an attorney and are discussing ways to block the film from even released.

The family does want a biopic to be made about Aaliyah. However, they believe a television movie is too small for a superstar like Aaliyah. They want a biopic about Aaliyah to be made with their input and released on the big screen in theaters.

Lifetime hasn’t commented on the Haughtons response to their Aaliyah biopic.
