“When I got around sixteen I was playing ball, and when n*ggas practice, we always listened to music,” Recalls Quincy “Dubb” White, on how he came to make mic rocking his life. “So I had my couple of favorite rappers I was listening to at the time so I would always imitate them.”

With Nas, Eminem, Tupac and Jadakiss as a backdrop, Dubb was turning into quite the skillful baller. The sophomore was even scheduled to head to varsity practice. But the night before, on a whim, the Athens Park, Los Angeles native decided to go to the studio with friends, a night that would change his life forever. “I thought I wanted to be a NBA player but when I went that first time the feeling the studio gave me was way better than playing basketball.” That was the day Dubb traded the blacktop for the booth, a decision that didn’t go over easily with everyone in his circle. “I just never showed up for varsity practice,” he remembers laughing. “And everybody was like; ‘Man, you crazy! Blah, blah, blah…” and now a nigga doing his thing.’ I’m not all the way there yet but I’m one of the tops on the west coast. So it’s paying off, slowly but surely.”

It’s been a long and rough road for Dubb. After releasing “South Centrals Own Vol. 1 & 2” on Hoodz Finezt Records in 2010, he lost his friend, mentor and the labels CEO Geno Cap to a car accident. Where most would have folded up and called it a day, Dubb refreshed his career with new partners Shyan “Chippy” Ellis and Adam “Eazy” Licea to form AV8ERS Entertainment. Since 2011, he’s released 5 mixtapes including his latest “Never Content” which has earned him looks in such notable outlets as Vibe, Complex, XXL and worked alongside fellow west coast notables like YG, The Game, Nipsey Hussle, Audio Push and Kendrick Lamar to name a few. And while he’s happy to rub elbows with the upper echelon, Dubbs reasons for rocking remain deeper than rap.

“Honestly man, I got emails to my address that’s supposed to be for booking from people that was about to commit suicide bro. And they’re like “Yo, I listened to blah, blah, blah and I was like, I’m gonna keep trying.” They were talking about not giving up in life!” So it makes me feel like, my purpose is way more than music,” he says earnestly. “I might make a club song here and there but when I touch people like that it just lets me know that this is what I’m supposed to be doing… and I’m gonna keep on doing it.”
