As we previously reported, a casting call announcement was recently posted for the N.W.A. biopic “Straight Outta Compton” and the descriptions for the women that the casting agency was seeking out was beyond disrespectful to the African American community.

According to Gawker, Universal is now fully aware of the public’s outrage over the casting call.

Allow us to refresh your memory about what  Sande Alessi Casting posted.

“A GIRLS: These are the hottest of the hottest. Models. MUST have real hair – no extensions, very classy looking, great bodies. We still throw up in our mouths every time we read that trash of a casting call notice. Apparently, Universal Pictures must understand how we feel or dare we say…they agree with us, because they just put out a statement concerning the train wreck of a description.

Says Universal,

“The filmmakers … did not approve and do not condone the information in this casting notice. We regret and sincerely apologize for being in any way associated with the offensive descriptions it contained.”

The casting post is no longer on the FB page of the Sande Alessi Casting company however, their website still has audition information for the biopic posted on it.

Universal has not said if it is still working with the casting company or not.

We think the most shameful part of all of this is that the movie is about Hip Hop culture, black life and all that is incorporated within it yet, Sande Alessi Casting apparently felt that we weren’t good enough to be depicted in our own story. This is not only unacceptable it’s deplorable.

Black women of ALL shades, flavors and hues are GORGEOUS! No matter if their hair is purchased or if they grew it from their own heads… they are spectacular period!

And for the record…the next time someone scoffs at “Black Girls Rock“, please remind them of this story and why there is still a need to celebrate black women. Because we don’t exactly see any other ethnic groups being singled out and put down this way year after year. Just saying.

The most ironic part of all of it is that the group N.W.A. railed against stuff like this! Who would have thought in a million years that people trying to work on a movie featuring them wouldn’t know better?!
