Brian Gary-Hogan honored fallen Staten Island resident Eric Garner the best way he knew how–balling.

The 21-year-old college sophomore donned a shirt that read “RIP Eric Garner” when he leaped over a NYC police car in Staten Island at the “Under The Lights” league, sending onlookers into a roaring celebration.

Eric Garner died while being placed in police custody after the arresting officer Daniel Pantaleo put him in a choke hold that led to Eric going into cardiac arrest. Brian played basketball with Eric’s son. Brian set out to help the “UTL” league honor the fallen “gentle giant” at Friday’s dunk contest.

“I did it because no matter what happens in our every day life between cops and citizens, we have to get along together,” Brian said in an official statement. “I wanted to help out the UTL league and honor Eric Garner because me and his son play ball together. And, I did it the best way I know how–dunking.”

“I wish what happened to Eric Garner would never happen again,” he added.

The video clip of Brian’s leap over a cop car has been making its way around social media, garnering respect with every play. Just like the lights that flared when the cop’s sirens went blazing, our hearts feel a little warmer.
