From October 3rd-5th, Harlem will be the site for a monumental weekend. The God & Hip Hop Weekend, a series of events culminating in the NOGE 50th Year Benefit Concert at the World Famous Apollo Theater, is gearing up in NYC.  The Builder’s Build Group (BBG) created this event because its founders believe hip hop has lost its way.

They believe it’s “headed for self destruction,”  and that’s got to stop! So, with sound traveling at 1,120 feet per second, the Gods are bringing the word life to counter the death now being promoted in hip hop music.

The unparalleled link between the Gods and Hip Hop is both historic and legendary. The Nation of Gods and Earths, commonly known as the Five Percent, was founded by Allah in Harlem NY in 1964. Hip hop’s birth can be traced to a “Back to School” jam when DJ Kool Herc rocked the turntables at 1520 Sedgwick Avenue in the Bronx in 1973. Even in those early days of hip hop, the Five Percenters were regarded as an integral part of the hip hop scene. Through hip hop music, our knowledge traveled from the inner cities to all across the country and eventually all over the world!

Mark your calendar because some of the greats will blessing the mic:  Rakim, Big Daddy Kane, Brand Nubian, Papoose and many more!  “The Queen” Erykah Badu and “The Drama King” DJ Kay Slay will also co-host the show.

Don’t  say we never told you.
