Nick Cannon is a man of many talents, and he is adding author to his resume. He’s teamed up with Scholastic to release a hip-hop themed poetry book for children called “Neon Aliens Ate My Homework and Other Poems.”

“Writing is at the center of everything I do as an artist,” Cannon said in the Scholastic press release. Doing creative writing—especially writing poetry—is when I felt the calmest and freest. As a kid, it was my escape from the inner-city pitfalls.”

“I hope that poems in Neon Aliens will help inspire kids to want to get out a pen and paper to write or draw their own thoughts, rhymes, and stories,” he said.

It will feature some of his own illustrations as well as street artists such as Califawnia and Art Mobb.

The book is slated for release in March 2015.
