The track, “Never Catch Me” featuring Kendrick Lamar, has been hyped ever since the track list revealed that the two would be collaborating. A flurry of sound at the intersection of jazz and hip-hop, Lamar’s vocals move almost as fast as the music from Ellison and bassist Thundercat does:
Analyze my demise, I say I’m super anxious
Recognize I deprive this fear and then embrace it
Vandalizing these walls only if they could talk
Conversations don’t contemplate to my dark thoughts
Ellison and Lamar have been collaborating a lot recently, with Lamar taking a lot of Ellison’s beats and delaying the much-anticipated album from Captain Murphy, Ellison’s rapping alter-ego. Ellison also collaborated with Lamar and director Kahlil Joseph on Lamar’s short film “M.A.A.D.”
“You’re Dead” is out on Warp Records on October 7 in the United States. Check out the song below!
