Director J.J. Abrams has received his share of flack from fans for being the man behind the Star Wars and Star Trek reboots. But the first teaser for the highly anticipated blockbuster is here to silence the haters.
In the trailer, we’re given glimpses of a Storm Trooper (played by John Boyega) lost in a desert, an R2-D2-type circular robot rolling along a pipeline and bite-sized previews of X-Wings, a new kind of Sith lightsaber. We also get to witness the return of the Millennium Falcon.
Abrams is known in Hollywood as a director who has a gift for mimicry, notably of filmmakers Steven Spielberg and George Lucas. But visually, he appears to be on top of his game, surprisingly. We’ll see if he can fully pull it off when “The Force Awakens” is released on December 18, 2015.
“Star Wars: The Force Awakens” stars returning players Mark Hamill, Carrie Fisher, and Harrison Ford, and features newcomers John Boyega, Andy Serkis, and Gwendoline Christine, among others.
