Wireless Festival 2014 - Day 3

As of  Sunday (December 14), J. Cole’s 2014 Forest Hills Drive is the #1 album in the country and easily managed to put up the biggest first week sales numbers from any hip-hop artist this year. Most recently, Cole and his Dreamville label seem to have another milestone to celebrate. His latest release has also broken streaming giant Spotify’s record for the most first-week streams of any album ever.

The Spotify feat is just the latest bit of success for an album that’s already seen a booming a commercial reception in the form of first-week sales in excess of 353,000 copies according to ChartNews. 2014 Forest Hills Drive is Cole’s third release to reach #1 and his second to debut at the top spot. (Last year’s Born Sinner climbed up to #1 after a couple weeks at #2.)

The rapper himself took to Twitter yesterday to respond to the overwhelming commercial support and hinted that his success should be grounds to “stop serving trash” on the music scene.

His latest comments come just days after he shrugged off the record’s initial sales reports, which ended up being even lower than he delivered upon.
