Mike Tyson and Earl Sweatshirt sat down for an interview about their lives, careers, fears and expectations. During the sit-down for Citizens of Humanity , the legendary boxer shared much of his insight with the young Odd Future rapper, who happens to be a 20-year-old.

“We don’t know at 20 years old the man we want to be,” Tyson told Earl during their interview. “I just recently found out the man I wanted to be in life. I said, ‘This is the guy I want to be. And I realized everything I did in the past prevented me from being the person that I wanted to be, so I don’t do what I did in the past anymore.'”

Tyson’s input during the question-and-answer session also sparked a conversation about dignity.

“I never really knew what dignity was until recently,” he said. “And I realized that more so not because of myself but the response I get from people, you know, a woman won’t have to worry about talking to me and worrying about me hitting on them anymore or anything like that… It makes me feel good, because when you sleep with so many people, all my life I thought that was adding to who I was, but it takes so much away from you.”

The boxer’s thoughts on dignity and maturity also allowed him to discuss sobriety.

“It’s all about spiritual awakenings,” he said. “I could never stop drugs, I could never stop drinking, doing stuff, until I received my spiritual awakening. Now it’s not a problem anymore. But I’ve been doing this since the ’90s, late ’90s and I never could stop but I never understood the spiritual awakening. And once that comes into play, it’s really eye opening.”

Earl Sweatshirt, who acknowledges a tendency to be reclusive during his time as an Odd Future star, says Andre 3000 is one of his favorite artists, and that his ego was crushed when he was sent away for behavioral reasons as a teen. Tyson, who doesn’t appear to be familiar with Sweatshirt or Odd Future at the start of the interview, quickly reminds him: “You know, you’re only 20; you’re not crushed yet.” Earl’s response? “True.”
