There might be only one way for the HBO series Game of Thrones to get any bigger, and this is it: the network has announced that it has come to an agreement with IMAX to bring the George R.R. Martin based fantasy world to IMAX later this month.

According to Variety, an IMAX-only season 5 trailer and the final episodes of the show’s fourth season will air at 150 theaters across the U.S. between January 23 and 29. The announcement, which marks the first time a television series will air on IMAX, came with news that the show will be digitally remastered for the specialty screens.

“The cinematic brilliance and grand scope of the series is perfect for the IMAX format,” Pamela Levine, chief marketing officer at HBO, said in a statement.  “We are always looking to provide fans with new and exciting ways to experience the show and viewing two key episodes, along with the new trailer, on such an impressive platform makes for a great event.”

The move is one of the first in what promises to be a big venture outside of traditional movie screenings for IMAX and comes just months after the distributor announced plans to screen a sequel to Crouching Tiger, Hidden Dragon on the same release date that the movie will be available on Netflix.

“IMAX always seeks innovative ways to provide moviegoers a unique and differentiated experience and today’s partnership with HBO and Game of Thrones achieves just that,” IMAX’s CEO Richard L. Gelfond said. “This deal also furthers our efforts to offer exhibitors the opportunity to participate in alternative forms of content in a new and exciting way.”

IMAX or not, fans can watch the fifth season of Game of Thrones when it picks back up this April on HBO.
