Death Row Records co-founder Marion ‘Suge’ Knight was formally arrested and booked by the Los Angeles Police Department on murder charges at roughly 3:00 am PST Friday. According to Reuters, LAPD representatives said Knight is being held in lieu of $2 million bail. Authorities sought Knight after he allegedly ran over two people with his pickup truck Friday afternoon at a fast food restaurant.

Knight’s lawyer, James Blatt told the Los Angeles Times his client was in fear of his life and making an effort to escape after a group of people reportedly threatened to drag Knight out of his vehicle and kill him. Reports say Knight and two unidentified men were arguing on the set of the N.W.A biopic Straight Outta Compton when the altercation began.

‘The investigation is in the very beginning stages,’ Blatt told The Times. ‘We anticipate him being exonerated.’

According to a spokeswoman from the Los Angeles District Attorney’s Office, Knight could be brought before a judge as soon as Monday. One victim died, while another was treated for undisclosed injuries.

Knight was shot six times in August of 2014 during a Chris Brown-hosted pre party for MTV’s Video Music Awards at the Hollywood, California nightclub 1Oak. In 2005, an unknown assailant shot Knight in the leg at a Kanye West-hosted pre party for the Video Music Awards. In 2010 a judge dismissed Knight’s $1 million suit against West in conjunction with the shooting.
